For some couples, they may only have 2 photo shoots ever taken of just themselves together, regardless of how long they’ve been a couple – for their engagement photos and for their wedding. I am 100% guilty of being in that category. I’ve been with my husband for 16 years and in that entire timeframe, we’ve only had those 2 photos shoots when it’s just been the two of us. We’ve had family shoots with our children in that time, but I only have a few photos out of hundreds where it’s just us, the core of what began our family. I am hoping to change that for other couples in the same boat.

Whether you’ve been together for a year or for 50 years, I would love to capture your relationship with your significant other. Maybe you’re celebrating a major milestone, maybe you’ve just endured a really hard year together, or maybe you need to refocus on your love and connection with one another. Whatever the reason, whether you have children or not, I can’t think of a better way to honor your relationship than documenting it in its current state.

My hope for any couples session is to get to the heart of what drew the two of you together. I want to visually tell the story of that emotional bond you developed together. Perhaps you’ve been through so many challenges together, hit one obstacle after another, but come up on the other side of it together. That relationship that endured all of that deserves to be honored through images. Perhaps this moment together is a visual marker in time, to show how far you’ve come and how you’ll evolve together.

This is also a perfect time to schedule a date night. You’ve dressed up, set aside the time for the session, so why not plan a night out on the town with your significant other after the session is over. Arrange for a babysitter if need be and then escape for a little 1:1 time with each other. I will be providing some ideas for date night options in future posts, so I hope you stick around.

After sharing some images from two recent couples sessions, I want to share a blog post written by a fellow photographer who shared a video review of camera bags.

Thank you for reading and I hope you book that couples session for you and your significant other!

And as I mentioned, if you’re looking to get a functional tote bag to carry any camera gear or other items, check out fellow photographer Ute Reckhorn, Fine Art photographer in the South Bay of Los Angeles for her latest video review.

    So gorgeous! Love these images!

  4. Yep same! The only pictures my husband and I have done were our engagement session and wedding and the only reason we did an engagement session was because it was included! These are lovely!
